Health Scientist Administrator

National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS)

The Position

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), which is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), announces an exciting opportunity in the Repair and Plasticity Cluster for a Health Science Administrator (Program Director) with scientific oversight in the areas of spinal cord injury, peripheral nerve injury, neural repair, plasticity, and regenerative neuroscience.   As a Health Scientist Administrator, the incumbent will provide programmatic leadership and serve as the scientific point of contact for basic, translational and clinical research programs in the areas of spinal cord injury and axonal regeneration biology at the NINDS. He/she will formulate, develop, and implement the scientific activities of related extramural research programs across the NIH and work with NIH Institutes and Centers and other government and non-government partners to promote and coordinate scientific research and discovery in areas related to this program.

A successful candidate for this position will have an advanced scientific degree (e.g., PhD or MD) preferred in neuroscience or related field; research experience including expertise in managing grants and collaborative projects, proven leadership and management skills; excellent communication practices (oral and written); expertise in negotiation and facilitation; and proven ability to interact effectively with senior management, in public forums and within project teams.
